๐Ÿ“˜ Algebra I Learning Outcomes (California โ€” High School Standards)

(Note: Algebra I is a high school level course, but many California schools allow students to take it in 8th grade if ready.)

๐Ÿ“Œ Core Content & Skills Students Should Master

1. Algebraic Expressions and Equations

  • Interpret and manipulate algebraic expressions.

  • Understand polynomial operations.

  • Write and solve linear and quadratic equations and inequalities.

  • Solve systems of equations.

2. Functions

  • Analyze characteristics of functions (linear, quadratic, exponential).

  • Interpret function representations (tables, graphs, equations).

  • Model realโ€world situations with functions.

3. Number and Quantity

  • Extend properties of exponents to rational exponents.

  • Work with and simplify expressions using radicals and rational exponents.

  • Understand rational and irrational numbers.

4. Reasoning with Equations and Inequalities

  • Reason about expressions and equations in problem solving.

  • Use equations and inequalities to represent relationships and analyze solutions.

5. Modeling and Applications

  • Use algebra to model real-world phenomena.

  • Interpret results in context and refine models.

6. Mathematical Practices

Students apply the same eight Standards for Mathematical Practice (listed above) at a more advanced level in Algebra I.
