Mr. Peters

Hello, I’m Mr. Peters, I teach music at Portola Middle School. I’ve been teaching music for 24 years and I enjoy changing students' lives forever with music.  I have a strong string, band, and guitar program that performs concerts, participates in competitions, and contributes to community events.

I have a bachelor's degree in music performance from California State Northridge, and a masters degree in music performance from California Institute of th Arts.  I taught elementary music for 14 years before arriving at Portola, and have taught at both high school and other middle schools.  I have recorded with many artists and have 2 grammy nominated albums that I performed on.  I also helped to create Valencia’s honor band program and started a summer program that I co-taught for 10 years.  

Outside the classroom, I am a passionate gardener and enjoy the outdoors with bicycling, hiking and e-biking.  I enjoy traveling, my wife is from Taiwan and we visit family often.

My classroom is a supportive, active, and sometimes noisy room.  We work hard to create music together that the students enjoy and challenges them to improve their musicianship.
