Ms.Kang, Sixth-grade Social Studies and Science

It’s not what you do, but the way you do it—these are the words of my mentor teacher of dance, Patsy Swayze, from four decades ago. She was my mentor dance teacher for twenty years and taught me that learners need to be versatile in their thinking, creativity, and self-reflection. For if they are, they will be prepared to open every door that comes their way.

In addition to teaching professional dance students, I hold a multiple-subject teaching credential from California State University, Northridge, as well as additional credentials to teach social studies and science. My central teaching philosophy, supporting learners to maximize their authentic leadership potential,  was developed while pursuing my Master's degree in Teacher Leadership and Advanced Instruction and my doctorate in Organizational Change and Reform at USC's Rossier School of Education.

When I am not teaching, I enjoy practicing Pilates on the reformer, gardening, and spending time with my dog. I also relish learning new things, developing creative lessons for my learners, and working within programs to improve equity and access in education.
